Simple Steps: How To Purchase Stock

The best advice is free advice, so here is a some free advice from me to you. Did you ever want to buy that special pooch in your life a gift, but didn't know where to get the money... The stock market is a great place to put your knowledge of a company to work. Maybe there is a company that you think will perform better than its peers in the future. The below article provides step-by-step instructions on how to purchase a share in the company of your choice.

  1. Think of a company that you would like to own shares of: let’s say you decide on Twitter.

  2. Go to www.google.com. Type in “Twitter Stock Symbol”

  3. You will see a large box that shows the market summary for Twitter, including it’s symbol, “TWTR” and the price at that moment in time (it’s 33.48 at 12:15pm on 5/24/18). This means you need $33.48 to purchase 1 share of Twitter.

  4. Next, you need to open a brokerage account. A brokerage account is an account that allows you to buy and sell stocks.

  5. For these purposes, I recommend www.Robinhood.com

  6. Enter your name, email, address, date of birth, social security number, employment information, etc into their account setup forms.

  7. Link your bank account to your Robinhood account and transfer in the amount of money that coincides with the number of shares you wish to buy

  8. Robinhood does not charge trading commissions so the cost to buy 5 shares of Twitter would be 5 multiplied by the price of Twitter in this example 33.48 which equals $167.40

  9. Type the symbol for Twitter (TWTR) in the search bar. On the right side of the screen it will ask you how many shares you wish to buy. Select the number (in this example 5).

  10. Robinhood will estimate the cost for you

  11. Click “Review” and if you approve click “Submit Buy”

  12. You now own 5 shares of Twitter
